Following its recent success, a skilled trades program geared towards youth is returning to Chatham-Kent this fall.

The Prosperity Roundtable is once again offering opportunities for youth as part of the training and employment project called Not Just A Handyman.

A total of 75 young people are being given chance to take part in the three-week training program, which will teach them foundational skills. Trainees will then have several opportunities to participate in networking events, and workshops that will grow their skills and continue their education in the trades.

The project was made possible through $215,310 in funding provided by Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.

“Across southwestern Ontario, there are thousands of jobs in the skilled trades waiting to be filled,” said Labour Minister Monte McNaughton. “If you’re a young person who enjoys working with your hands, this program will give you the skills you need to start a meaningful life-long career and earn a bigger paycheque.”

The Not Just A Handyman program runs from September 12 to September 29 and from October 17 to November 3. Applications close at the end of August.
