A project to help better manage the finances of 7 member First Nations across Southwestern Ontario is moving into its next phase.

The Southern First Nations Secretariat is hiring a consultant.

Shawn Plain, the Chair of the Southern First Nations Secretariat, says each First Nation will be looked at individually.

“They will go into each First Nation individually and look at the particulars of that First Nation because you can’t paint us all with the same brush. We all have different opportunities in our areas depending on where our location is and things we’re involved in. So we’re going to look into the economic loss of each First Nation and see where they’re spending money and where they’re losing money,” says Plain.

Plain says there are opportunities share services and purchasing to help spend funds efficiently.

The 7 member First Nations include Aamjiwnaang First Nation, Caldwell First Nation, Chippewas of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Delaware Nation – Moravian of the Thames, Munsee-Delaware Nation, and Onedia Nation of the Thames.

The SFNS was given $73,860 from the Rural Economic Development Program under the previous Liberal government.
