SPORTS TALK – Mon Aug 12

– Congratulations to Chatham’s Jessie McPherson. McPherson, a goaltender and C-K product has been named to Canada’s National Women’s U-18 hockey team. She will suit up in a three-game series against the U.S. this week. Jessie played this past season with the PWHL’s Cambridge Rivulettes, posting a 9-6-4 record with 4 shutouts, 1.45 GAA and .934 save percentage. McPherson is a Chatham Outlaws, Kent Cobras and C-K Cyclone alumni and has committed to playing NCAA division I hockey for the University of Vermont.

– Chatham’s Genevieve Sasseville brought home more hardware this weekend. Gigi won a silver medal at the Canadian Swimming Championships, Senior Nationals in Winnipeg. The 16-year-old Chatham Pool Shark took second in the 100 metre butterfly with a time of 1:00.41

– The Kent Bridge Huskies won the Lambton-Kent Ladies Softball Championship in dramatic fashion over the weekend. Kent Bridge defeated McArm Construction twice in the finals to win the league title. The Huskies won game one by a score of 4-3 and game two by a 3-1 score. Sarah Ytsma pitched the entire seven-inning final, allowing only three hits while striking out 14.

– The Chatham Maroons broke camp this weekend, ahead of the 2019-2020 GOJHL season. Head coach Kyle Makaric and staff have announced several signings over the last two weeks. Makaric tells CKSN.ca there are forward and defensive positions open. He says the club is looking to bring in a high skill level and competitive mindset. The Maroons have not filled their 16-year-old cards at this point.
