With humble beginnings in the Canadian indie scene, Nikki’s Wives have gone from booking opening slots on local basement shows to headlining sold-out Victoria’s Secret events in just a few short years. The trio’s growing reputation for seductive live performances has taken them across the border to support multi-platinum artists (CeeLo Green, Pop Evil, Aaron Carter) in the states, and put them in writing rooms with Grammy Award winning songwriters (Gary Baker, Jeff Trott).
After spending much of 2018 in the studio, Nikki’s Wives made their return to Toronto in August to play their hometown for the first time since their guest performance at Veld Music Festival. “It was kind of nerve-wracking coming back” reflects singer Nikki Whitehead, “we spent so much time in the States, we didn’t know if anyone would even remember us back home.” Those worries were dispelled as a lineup of 700 fans wrapped around the downtown block for entry to the 250 cap venue. “It was madness, the promoter wanted us to do two shows that night so they could let more people in” Nikki continued, “it reminded us that no matter how far we go, Canada will always be our home.”
To close out the year, Nikki’s Wives took a road-trip to LA to record material for their debut full length record, and to accept a nomination for “Best Independent Music Video” at the 2018 HMMA’s (Hollywood Music in Media Awards). Working on the final touches of their original material, writing top-lines for chart-topping EDM artists, as well as booking live shows into the first quarter, Nikki’s Wives are quickly establishing themselves as in-demand creators that can blur the barriers between Alt-Rock and Pop.
