TUNE IN FOR THE #SPOTLIGHT ALL THIS WEEK AT 3:40 PM TO HEAR SOMBRA’S RENEE CARD!
Singing and playing piano since the age of four, Renee has a life-long relationship with music and has recently released her debut full length album “Set Free”.
A mother of three – Matt, Dylan and Ashley, Renee is the proud wife of Mike and is kept busy and blessed within her family and music.
Renee currently plays in two local groups; a four-piece act called Wild Cards and an acoustic duo known as R&R. Card has played in several local cover bands in the past.
Renee is a worship leader at River City Vineyard Church in Sarnia, where she has dedicated the past ten years. Card says she’s very proud to be a part of the church, because it is very involved with helping the homeless and low income community. One-third of Renee’s CD sales goes back to River City Vineyard Church.
The title track of “Set Free” was one of Renee’s earlier written pieces, composed when she was just 13 years old “going through some really terrible stuff a teen shouldn’t have to experience.” Card says she couldn’t tell anyone about it at the time, so she wrote the song and buried it. When choosing songs for the CD, Card ran across her hidden gem and decided to bring it to life.
Recording it was very therapeutic for me, and my prayer is that it is encouraging to others who also are experiencing or have experienced abuse – that there is hope.
The CD was produced by Clayton Healey from Prometheus Records in London, ON. Healey has also supported the project financially. Plans are in the works to begin a second CD soon.
