The local English Catholic school board is once again looking at replacing Ursuline College in Chatham.
An updated long-term capital plan was presented to trustees with the St Clair Catholic District School Board Tuesday night, covering facility upgrades over the next four years.
As part of its long-term plan for 2024 through 2028, the board plans to submit a business case and capital funding application for a replacement school, as well as a land priorities application to the Ministry of Education
The board most recently submitted a funding request to the Ministry in 2023, but was unsuccessful. Officials say the estimated cost for construction is $71.28 million.
“Our Long-Term Capital Plan is an essential roadmap for ensuring that our school facilities remain safe, sustainable, and capable of supporting the needs of our students and staff,” said Amy Janssens, Associate Director of Corporate Services & Treasurer. “The 2024-2028 update includes significant milestones for the coming years, including new construction projects, renovations, and the continuation of community partnerships to enhance facility use.”
Other highlights in the long-term plan include a review of portable accommodation needs for Wallaceburg and the surrounding area, and submitting a business case and capital funding application to add a new classroom to St Anne School in Blenheim.
