The premier event for St. Clair College’s powerline technician program is coming back for another year.

The annual Powerline Rodeo takes place Thursday, April 9 at the college’s National Powerline Training Centre on Bear Line Road in Chatham, helping students show off their skills to potential future employers.

Each student will compete in various challenges, including pole top rescue, ring the bell, climbing relay, don’t break the egg, team relay climb, and insulator change.

“This year’s rodeo is more than a showcase; it’s a powerful display of skill, grit, and growth,” David Dwyer, Technologist with the Powerline Technician program said in a news release. “Our students are putting their training into action, demonstrating the expertise they’ve built in the powerline program while sharing their journey with friends and family.”

The college’s Powerline Technician program has grown exponentially since it was established 15 years ago. In its first year, 28 students enrolled in the program. Now, there are 175 students honing their skills.

Rodeo events run from 9-11am, and 1-4pm.
