State of Emergency Ended

A localized state of emergency put in place on Friday because of flooding along the Thames River has now ended.

Mayor Darrin Canniff issued a statement late yesterday afternoon, praising LTVCA staff and municipal employees for their work.

“From those who repaired the dikes, to our engineering and public works officials, first responders and our customer service representatives, there was a strong level of professionalism and dedication,” Canniff says. “The officials from the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, local contractors and Entegrus and Enbridge were outstanding as well.”

Officials say repairs have been made along the river in West Kent, and the water level has dropped more than 50 inches since it peaked.

Municipal officials and staff at the LTVCA continue to monitor the situation.
