The four-way stop at the intersection of Murray and Reaume in Wallaceburg is going to be staying put – at least for the time being.
Councillor Jeff Wesley says the removal of the all-way stopped has been delayed.
“Nothing will change right now, you continue to have a four-way stop there,” Wesley says. “We’ll wait for all the construction to get done and then we’ll move forward from there.”
Wesley says he and fellow Wallaceburg Councillor Carmen McGregor have heard concerns from numerous area residents who believe the removal would have been confusing and unsafe with increased traffic caused by the construction on McNaughton.
The intersection is expected to be converted to a 2-way stop once construction wraps up at the end of July.
The decision was initially made last summer when the council agreed to scrap the adult crossing guard program and install lighted crosswalks instead.
MTO regulations won’t allow for a four-way stop and lighted crosswalk at the same intersection.
