Police will be keeping a closer eye on roads across Chatham-Kent after a number of complaints on Wednesday about motorists not stopping for school buses.
The law states anyone driving behind a school bus must stop at least 20 metres away to allow children to get on or off safely.
Anyone caught passing a stopped school bus with lights flashing and the stop arm extended can face fines ranging from $400 to $2,000 and 6 demerit points. For multiple offences fines range from $1,000 to $4,000, 6 demerit points and possible jail time of up to 6 months.
