Stop Sign Debacle to be Debated

Wallaceburg drivers will be waiting with baited breath tonight as municipal leaders debates whether to hold off on removing stop signs on Murray Street at the corner of Reaume. stopsign

The intersection was slated to have the four-way stop removed with the installation of a lighted cross-walk, but on the heels of a public outcry, that decision was put on hold.

Councillor Jeff Wesley says he’d like to see the removal put off until at least the end of the summer, when construction on McNaughton is finished.

When we looked at what was going to be implemented there, council never discussed, never heard recommendations, never heard any impact on the fact of doing all these changes at the same time we had major construction take place on McNaughton and to come very soon Murray Street,” Wesley says. “Really it’s a situation that has developed here that we need to address.”

On Friday, engineering staff agreed to delay the removal of the Murray Street stop signs until council could discuss the issue further tonight.

There’s still time for local residents to let everyone on council know how they feel on the issue, on way or the other, by emailing council@chatham-kent.ca.
