Stopped For Speeding, Arrested For Impaired Driving

Exceeding the speed limit is the least of one Chatham man’s problems after being arrested for impaired driving.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were conducting a speed enforcement on Grand Avenue West in Chatham at around 2:29 a.m. on Saturday when they spotted a vehicle travelling 77 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.

Police stopped the vehicle on Keil Drive North and administered a roadside sobriety test, which registered a fail. The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to police headquarters for further testing.

As a result, a 27-year-old Chatham man has been charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and speeding. He was later released from custody with a November court date.
