A familiar face is throwing her hat in the ring to run for mayor of Chatham-Kent in the upcoming municipal election.
Alysson Storey, the driving force behind the Build the Barrier movement to increase safety along the 401, filed the official paperwork at the Civic Centre on Tuesday, the first day of nominations.
She says economic development and creating jobs are priorities in the community.
“We need to really work on getting more jobs in Chatham-Kent, we need to work on helping our local business do that,
I’m not interested in traveling too far afield right now to look for those jobs,” Storey explains. “I think we have a lot of very talented and capable business owners and investors in Chatham-Kent and in our region that we need to support and encourage and listen to.”
While she has never held a position on council, the Chatham-native has worked for all three levels of government, including nearly 10 years with the municipality.
Storey joins current Chatham Councillor Darrin Canniff on the October 22nd ballot.
Incumbent Mayor Randy Hope has declared his intent to run for re-election, but as of Tuesday morning, has not filed the necessary paperwork.
