With strong winds expected over the next three days, the local conservation authority is warning of possible flooding and shoreline damage along the Lake Erie shoreline.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority said southern wind speeds could reach up to 45 km per hour Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning. The wind is then expected to change to a westerly direction, with sustained wind speeds in the 25-45 km/h range before tapering off Friday evening.

Waves on Lake Erie are expected to reach one to two metres during this time.

Due to high lake levels, the conservation authority said erosion is possible along all areas of the Lake Erie shoreline in Chatham-Kent, including along the high bluff areas.

As well, there will be a risk of flooding at times along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent from Wednesday evening until Friday afternoon.

The conservation authority said everyone should use caution and avoid the shoreline if conditions become rough.
