Back in the summer of 2014, while on an 11-week sabbatical from the church, I made 2 separate trips to take my mom to have cataracts removed from both of her eyes.
I was amazed at how many people were there at the hospital to get this procedure done. My mom’s vision had been steadily decreasing over a period of time, and it was determined that the cataracts were the source of the problem.
Each time she had the surgery done she noticed a very pronounced increase in her vision. It occurred to me that many in the world today are walking around with spiritual cataracts. Impediments such as unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, and jealousy cloud a person’s clear spiritual view.
Just as a simple surgical procedure was the antidote for my mom’s vision, so an appeal in prayer to the Lord can alleviate the problem in our spiritual lives. The danger exists that if we tolerate these impediments we may get sucked in to believing that this is the norm.
What may appear as something we just have to live with can give way to wonderful breakthrough if we will just humble ourselves and seek the Lord’s help and guidance. Let me encourage you today to deal with your spiritual cataracts. If not dealt with, they will eventually cloud out your spiritual vision altogether and you will find yourself groping around in the dark.
