Supporting Local Agri-Tourism

At tonight’s Chatham-Kent planning meeting, council will look to add “Agri-tourism Use” as an additional permitted use in Chatham-Kent in agricultural A1 zones.

Examples of the proposed definition will permit activities such as corn mazes, hay-rides, petting zoos, farm-themed playgrounds, retreats, trail rides etc., as potential examples under this use. The definition is intended to allow a range of specific activities to occur on a farm while maintaining the overall rural characteristic of the surrounding area.

In a report to council, administration said the purpose of adding Agri-tourism Use in agricultural zones allows for further diversification for the agricultural community, lending support for long term sustainability and an opportunity for farmers to supplement their existing income.
