Collaboration is key when it comes to helping victims of crime in Chatham-Kent.
This is Victim and Survivors of Crime Week. Jason Brown, volunteer coordinator at Chatham-Kent Victim Services says it’s a true team effort.
“We have a team of dedicated volunteer community crisis responders that follow up with victims and those impacted by traumatic situations,” Brown explains. “That may look like attending the scene of a crime, attending a death notification if someone has died in the course of a crime, or if someone has self-referred a member of our team may just call to follow up to see what resources they need and connect them with other community resources.”
Those other community resources include a variety of partners throughout Chatham-Kent, including Chatham-Kent Police, Chatham-Kent OPP, Chatham-Kent Integrated Children’s Services, CKHA, Rock Missions, and the United Way.
“There’s a number of really important community partners, almost too many to name,” Brown says. “It’s really all hands on deck and we have a lot of great organizations in Chatham-Kent who help us support victims and do a lot of great work across the community.”
