The local Catholic school board is supporting students in developing countries by giving school materials a second life.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board is donating surplus furniture and books from its schools to Canadian Food for Children – Chatham-Kent. All of the desks, chairs and books collected will be shipped to schools in Honduras.

Board officials said they are grateful that these educational resources will find a new purpose in classrooms in other parts of the world, supporting students and enhancing their learning environments.

The local chapter of Canadian Food for Children has been collecting and sending food, clothing, medical and school supplies and other needed items since 1997. The group’s volunteers have supported missions in several countries such as Tanzania, Sierra Leone, El Salvador and Zambia, among others.
