Suspect Sought in Richmond Street Assault

Chatham-Kent police are looking for the public’s help as they search for a suspect after an attack in Chatham.

Authorities say the victim was walking on Richmond Street between Raleigh and West just before 6 o’clock Thursday morning when he was approached by a man asking for a light. The attacker then allegedly hit the victim with a blunt object.

The victim suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital for medical attention.

The only description provided of the accused is that he was wearing a black hoodie or jacket and beige pants.

Police are asking anyone with surveillance cameras in the neighbourhood to check their footage for evidence of the incident. As well, a man driving a black pickup truck reportedly stopped to talk to the victim. Police are asking this potential witness to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Bryan Parker at bryanpa@chatham-kent.ca. Anonymous calls can be made to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
