Failing to yield to a yellow light on St. Patrick’s Day has led to impaired driving charges for a Chatham man.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers who were on patrol in Chatham on Tuesday, shortly before 10 p.m., saw a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Third Street, before entering the intersection at Wellington Street West, while the traffic signal was yellow.
The driver completed the turn after the light turned red, and the driver was pulled over on Queen Street.
During the traffic stop, the driver was arrested after showing signs of impairment and was taken to police headquarters for further testing.
As a result, a 22-year-old Chatham man is now charged with failing to stop for an amber light and driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He will answer the charges in court in May.
