A local councillor is looking for more information to help better care for area cemeteries.
Saying it’s an issue that is close to the hearts of many residents, Councillor Carmen McGregor is looking for clarity on such things as grass maintenance standards, volunteers, policies and the possibility of purchasing small excavators that wouldn’t put much wear and tear on local cemeteries.
“It’s good information that every councillor should have to understand when they get questions, and they will. We all get questions about cemeteries throughout the year,” McGregor said.
McGregor said she received a lot of public feedback about grass cutting, ornaments at gravesites, and trench marks at Wallaceburg’s Riverview Cemetery.
“It’s kind of a very passionate discussion when you’re discussing things (about) the cemetery with families that have lost ones and rightfully so,” McGregor said.
A notice of motion to look into buying smaller excavators in the future and renting two for this year will be discussed at the next council meeting on April 24.
