Talking Drugs, Bullying and More With Local Kids

Chatham-Kent police are visiting local schools talking to Grade 5 students about drugs, bullying, shoplifting and a number of other issues that tweens might face.

Special Constable Brenda Koldyk says it’s the start of a conversation.

“There’s an open, frank discussion about their own family, their own morals and values, and the risks,” Koldyk says. “The more we take the time to listen and to educate these students, the better the opportunity for them to make good decisions in the future.”

Koldyk says after the conversation, there’s a downloadable app for tablets and phones, a 112 page handbook, and the expectation that the conversation continues at home.
