The health of workers and the bottom line of businesses are both negatively impacted because of workplace injuries.
That’s why Ontario Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton decided to launch a safety blitz aimed at addressing ergonomics issues.
“We know that people who are using the wrong posture for example, this is the number one injury that happens in workplaces across Ontario, in fact one third of all lost-time injuries are due to how people sit at desks,” McNaughton says.
Employers and employees are being encouraged to discuss modern practices and technologies to help reduce workplace injuries, including the option of standing desks.
McNaughton says inspectors survey 1500 workplaces every week, with an extra emphasis on safety where ergonomics are an issue.
