Teacher Job Action Ramping Up This Week

Negotiations between the Ontario government and public elementary teachers are expected to resume today with the threat of an increase work-to-rule campaign hanging over their heads.

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, which represents 78,000 teachers, occasional teachers, and educational professionals across the province, has planned to ramp up its job action starting on Tuesday.

The escalation includes withdrawing a number of services; planning any new field trips for students; collect money for school-based activities, except when raising money for charity; and acting as the “teacher in charge.”

Meantime, public high school teachers are planning another one-day strike, but only in selected regions.

The OSSTF says nine school boards will be targeted on Wednesday, but the list does not include the Lambton-Kent District School Board.
