Teachers Launch Work-to-Rule

After months of tense contract negotiations, public teachers across the province are stepping up their fight against the Ford government.

Members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation are beginning work to rule campaigns today, withdrawing some administrative tasks and services.

However both unions have maintained there will be no impact on student learning, at least for now.

The OSSTF has more talks scheduled with the province tomorrow and Thursday, and says if those don’t go well, an escalation in job action is possible.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce said the government has been reasonable in contract talks, scaling back increases to class sizes and mandatory e-learning requirements.

In a statement released this morning, Lecce says his top priority is keeping students in school.
