TekSavvy Welcomes Big City Mayors’ Resolution

A Chatham-based internet company is praising the Ontario Big City Mayors for their push to overturn a decision by the CRTC.

The Big City Mayors resolution calls on the federal cabinet to reinstate a key 2019 decision that would lower the rates major telecom companies can charge smaller providers to access their networks.

Back in May, the CRTC reversed its own decision on Canadian internet prices, which TekSavvy says effectively means prices will continue to rise.

“It is clear that the federal Cabinet can address this fiasco,” says Andy Kaplan-Myrth, TekSavvy’s vice president of Regulatory and Carrier Affairs. “With the stroke of a pen, Cabinet can deliver lower internet prices for Canadians, simply by reinstating the CRTC’s pro-consumer 2019 Rates Order, which was based on years of process and mountains of evidence.”
