st-clair-college-logoSt Clair College is expecting an influx of students with a new National Powerline Training Centre.

The federal government is giving $800,000 to the Thames Campus for the fast-growing powerline technician program.

Chair of Academic Services Mark Benoit says the Centre will attract students from across the country.

“We have experienced a lot of growth in the powerline program,” Benoit says. “We started it in 2011 and it’s grown over 300% from 2011 to 2016.”

St Clair College boasts the largest powerline technician program in Ontario.

The college has spent the past year raising the other $800,000 for a total project cost of $1.6 million.

Construction of the 8000 square foot facility is set to begin this spring.
