Theft And Threats Lead To Charges

A local man has been charged after allegedly threatening an employee and stealing multiple items from a Wallaceburg business.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the Dufferin Avenue business at around 4 p.m. on Sunday after a customer said he would harm the employee if the card he was using to purchase items did not work.

When the card was declined, the man left the store and attempted to steal a bicycle but was unsuccessful.

Officers quickly located a suspect and following a short foot chase, he was arrested. The suspect also allegedly was found to be in possession of items from the store.

As a result, a 28-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with robbery, resisting a peace officer, and possessing stolen property. He was taken to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
