Another three Chatham-Kent residents have lost their lives to COVID-19.
The three additional deaths were reported in this week’s update from Chatham-Kent Public Health. Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 85 local residents have died as a result of COVID-19.
Between July 31 and August 6, 63 new cases of the virus were detected by the health unit, bringing the average number of cases per day to nine.
Chatham-Kent’s positivity rate sits at 10.8 per cent, slightly lower than the provincial rate of 14 per cent.
While Ontario remains in the seventh wave of the pandemic, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore said last week that the wave has peaked, with key indicators trending downward.
Over the last two weeks, one new outbreak was declared in the municipality in the Medicine B Unit at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. The outbreak was declared on August 4 and is currently linked to six cases.
A second outbreak remains in effect at the hospital in the Medicine A Unit, which is linked to 19 cases. The health unit is also keeping tabs on an outbreak linked to 25 cases at Fairfield Park long-term care facility in Wallaceburg.
