Threshing Festival Celebrating 50 Years In Thamesville

Thamesville’s signature summer festival is celebrating half a century of family fun and entertainment.

The 50th annual Thamesville Threshing Festival kicks off on Friday and runs through Saturday at Ferguson Park.

Friday’s festivities will begin at 5 p.m. featuring midway rides, live music, food trucks and vendors. The evening will culminate with the municipality’s first-ever drone light show.

“We’ve never really had anything except for our midway rides on the Friday night but this year we’re going to have the drones for the first time. So we’re really excited about that,” said organizer Bill Finley.

Finley said the festival will also feature a 1970s-themed costume contest. However, it will be a change from what most people are used to.

“We have 12 roaming judges that will take a picture of a costume and post it later on our [website]. You actually get a gift certificate if a judge chooses you,” he said.

He added that the contest isn’t limited to Thamesville.

“You could be anywhere in Chatham-Kent and a judge sees you and decides to take a picture of your costume,” said Finley.

The fun continues on Saturday at 9 a.m. with several events including a baby show, pony rides, a chainsaw carver, Indigenous dancers, and more. A fireworks display at 10:15 p.m. will close out what is expected to be one of the biggest Threshing Festivals ever.
