Time To Fall Back

This weekend marks the end of Daylight Saving Time for another year.

Clocks fall back one hour at 2 o’clock Sunday morning as most North Americans shifting back to Eastern Standard Time for the next four months.

Contrary to popular belief, the origins of the biannual time change, brought into effect in Ontario in 1918, lay more with energy consumption during war time than giving farmers more daylight to harvest their fields.

Ontario passed the Time Amendment Act in 2020 to make Daylight Saving Time permanent, however the province would need both Quebec and New York state to be on board.

Fire officials say the time change also serves as a good reminder to change the batteries in smoke and CO detectors in your home.
