Chatham-Kent residents who have not purchased up-to-date tags for their canine companions could soon be facing a fine.

Animal control officers will be going door-to-door in Chatham-Kent enforcing the purchase of dog licenses, and representatives from Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) will be contacting anyone who has not purchased their 2025 dog tag.

Municipal officials say all by-law enforcement officers will be wearing official animal control uniforms and have name tags.

As per a municipal bylaw, all dog owners are required to purchase tags each year. Residents who fail to purchase their dog tags risk a $240 fine.

Dog tags can be purchased at the animal shelter in Chatham or at any municipal office. They can also be purchased online at https://pawr.org/product-category/dog-tags/ , and the tag will be mailed to you.

If you no longer own a dog, you can call 311 or 519-360-1998 and press 0 to have your dog licence account deactivated.
