UPDATE: Timmins Crescent Fire Sends One Person to Hospital

One person has been taken to hospital following a residential fire in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue crews responded to a four-plex on Timmins Crescent just after 8:30 Wednesday night.

Firefighters arrived to find flames emanating from the second-floor window of the residential complex. The unit sustained smoke and water damage, however, fire crews were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent units

One person was taken to hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns to one hand. Officials said the victim was treated by EMS at the scene with a CyanoKit, an antidote for cyanide exposure.

Damage caused by the fire has been estimated at around $100,000 and the cause has been listed as accidental.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has also been notified.
