Tire tracks in the snow have helped police to track down a wanted Walpole Island man.

Officers with the Walpole Island Police Service were on patrol at around 10:30 a.m. on Monday when they spotted tire impressions crossing the snowy ice surface of the Johnson Channel to St. Anne Island. Concerned for the well-being of those involved, police initiated a search.

With the help of Walpole Island Resource Protection and the Ontario Provincial Police, officers located a vehicle that had entered the ditch on the island, however, no one was around the vehicle.

At around 2:30 p.m., police found a man walking along the shoreline of St. Anne Island and learned that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

As a result, a 38-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and charged with 12 counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
