T’is the Season for Ticks

Ticks are out in full force, and the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit wants you to be protected.

Public Health Inspector Michael Hatten says the concern is with Lyme disease, which is carried by the blacklegged tick.

“In Chatham-Kent we have two types of ticks, one is the Blacklegged Tick and one is the American Dog Tick,” Hatten says. “The American Dog Tick is the most common one that you’ll find anywhere, and currently the Blacklegged Tick is only found in Rondeau Provincial Park.”

Hatten says ticks can be found in long grassy areas, and wearing long sleeves and long pants can reduce your risk of being bitten.
