Officials at Chatham-Kent’s tourism department are letting the dust settle and are finally getting a chance to catch their collective breath.
Thousands of visitors came to Chatham-Kent over the last few weeks with back to back major events like the International Plowing Match and the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling.
Shannon Paiva, the Supervisor of Tourism Development, says a lot of our local landmarks were busy.
“Places like the Buxton National Museum, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and our Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society inside the WISH Centre all had a lot of people visiting them to learn more about it,” Paiva explains. “It was amazing to see, curling specifically, the amount of people that were taking those brochures and asking about the Underground Railroad and the significance of Chatham-Kent was really great to see.”
She says the fact we were getting three-hour nationwide broadcasts on Sportsperson for the curling tournament, three times a day, certainly helped.
