With the memory fresh of recent flooding in the Chatham and Thamesville areas earlier this year, the Insurance Bureau of Canada has made its “Flood Factor” interactive booth available at the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo.
Pete Karageorgos, with the Insurance Bureau of Canada, says the interactive tool is used for both information and education about flood risks.
“It’s an interactive display that allows individuals to zoom down into their neighbourhoods to get a sense of the type of flood risk that exists, based on flood mapping and models.”
Karageorgos says severe weather events, like the ones who have seen recently, are going to become more common moving forward.
As an example, he says weather has caused a billion dollars damage in Ontario this year. That billion dollar total used to be the national figure.
The Flood Factor display is part of the Insurance Bureau of Canada exhibit in the Rural Living tent at the IPM this week.
