In an effort to enhance public safety, improve streetscapes, and promote environmental stewardship, Chatham-Kent will be conducting proactive maintenance on hundreds of trees across the municipality.
Beginning this month, around 2,000 municipally-owned trees, which have been identified through municipal inspection and assessment, will be professionally trimmed to maintain their natural shape and structural integrity
The comprehensive tree maintenance program will also include removing dead, damaged, or hazardous branches to improve clearance space over roadways, sidewalks, driveways, and roofs, as well as around streetlights, traffic signs, and overhead utilities.
Local residents are asked to avoid parking on the street when municipal crews are actively working and to use caution around active work zones.
