Trillium Grant To Support Financial Management Service For Seniors

New grant funding is helping to ensure seniors in Chatham-Kent can get the financial support they need.

Thanks to a $96,200 Seed grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), Family Service Kent is developing a new Senior Trustee Program.

The local organization will pilot the financial management program, which will assist older adults who face barriers in managing their day-to-day finances safely and independently. This can include seniors who may be experiencing cognitive decline, isolation, or financial vulnerability.

“Through this investment, we’re able to explore a new way of supporting seniors who may be struggling to manage their finances or in vulnerable situations, while also ensuring they can remain safe, independent, and connected to their community,” said Dan Farrow, the executive director of Family Service Kent, in a news release.

The Senior Trustee Program will also include outreach, partnerships, and community education to help reduce the risk of financial abuse and improve the financial well-being of older adults in the region.
