Trillium Grant Supports Counselling Services In CK

A non-profit organization in Chatham-Kent is making good use of a recent grant awarded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Through the foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund, Family Service Kent was awarded $105,800 to support recovery efforts following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Family Service Kent’s innovative approach, supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund, not only addresses critical need for mental health support, but propels us toward a future where every individual can harness their potential,” said Chatham-Kent Leamington MPP Trevor Jones in a news release.

With the funding, Family Service Kent was able to hire an experienced student supervisor for up-and-coming psychotherapy students currently enrolled in school, who can work very closely with students to strengthen the level of counselling service.

As well, the organization was able to purchase new laptops and software for each of the counsellors, which enables Family Service Kent the flexibility to provide virtual counselling.

“By integrating skilled student supervisors and harnessing cutting-edge technology, they’ve not only increased the availability of counselling services but also elevated their quality,” said Jones.
