Trying to Prevent Gas Theft

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police are trying to crack down on gas thefts.

The Association has called on the provincial government to develop legislation to equip all gas pumps with pre-payment technology 24 hours a day.

Officials say that ‘gas-and-dash’ thefts in Ontario have caused unnecessary injuries and death to service station employees, and these incidences are on the rise.

OACP President Chief Kimberley says police services across the country continue to allocate resources to respond to these preventable crimes, which impact their ability to respond to other community priorities.
