Local residents with a stash of empty beer bottles are being asked to donate them in support of early childhood literacy.
The Kiwanis Club of Chatham-Kent has once again partnered with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for its annual Bottles for Books fundraiser.
Residents can donate their empty liquor, wine, and beer bottles, as well as any alcohol or beer cans, to fund the distribution of books to children in Chatham-Kent.
The free, high-quality books are mailed out through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, supporting children from birth until they start school, regardless of their family’s income.
Since beginning in Chatham-Kent, 662 children have enrolled in the program, and 21,519 books have been distributed locally.
Those interested in participating in Bottles for Books can drop off their empties on June 6 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at either of the Chatham Beer Store locations on Richmond Street and St. Clair Street.
