The hard work of Wallaceburg residents to fix up the town hasn’t gone unnoticed.
TVO is featuring a story highlighting the changes, growth and recovery of the glass town’s economy since the dark days of the 90s and early 2000s.
It’s the first of a series focusing on southwestern Ontario.
The piece covers the hard times of job losses and falling prospects for the town, the planning and work that went into creating the Wallaceburg Community Task Force, and the eventual recovery.
One key point was the landing of Rulmeca in 2010, bringing almost 90 jobs, spurring additional growth and a renewed sense of civic pride and optimism.
The author believes that pride was part of the reason for Wallaceburg’s improving fortunes, which most recently resulted in the landing of the Whyte’s pickle plant, which is set to open this summer.
