A Chatham man is facing charges after two police officers were assaulted while responding to a disturbance.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to a Chatham residence on Sunday shortly before midnight, regarding an intoxicated man who had become aggressive and was threatening others. The man was also seen on video surveillance footage throwing a weapon during an altercation.
When officers arrived, the man resisted attempts to de-escalate the situation and an officer was assaulted. The man was arrested, but while in custody, he became unruly and assaulted another officer.
A 53-year-old Chatham man is now charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
