
An investigation is ongoing following a two-vehicle collision that sent six people to hospital and shut down a section of Highway 40.
The Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to the collision on the highway near Countryview Line at around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
An 80-year-old Chatham-Kent resident, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was rushed to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle, an 87-year-old Chatham-Kent resident, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and was also taken to hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 67-year-old from Chatham-Kent, and three passengers from Lambton County, aged 41, 19 and 14, were also treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
Highway 40 was closed between Claymore Line and Cedar Hedge Line for more than nine hours following the collision.
