A local man is facing impaired driving charges after his licence plate tipped off police.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers on patrol stopped a vehicle on Merritt Avenue in Chatham at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday after it was seen with a partially lit rear licence plate light.

Authorities said the driver showed signs of impairment, and he provided expired documentation.

As a result, a 49-year-old Chatham man is now charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, having an improper plate light, and failing to provide insurance.

He was taken to police headquarters and released from custody with a court date later this month.
