Unruly Roommate Arrested For Assault, B&E

A Chatham man is facing several charges after an argument between roommates turned violent.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to an apartment on Patteson Avenue in Chatham for a disturbance at around 12:01 a.m. on Friday.

Authorities said two roommates had been arguing when one of them pushed the other several times and put her in a headlock before pushing her to the floor.

Officers arrived and arrested a 24-year-old Chatham man who was then charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and two counts of assault. He was released from custody with conditions, including avoiding communication with his roommate and not attending the apartment.

However, shortly after being released, the man allegedly called his roommate numerous times before going back to the apartment. After knocking and yelling at the door, police allege the man entered through a window and confronted his roommate again. Once inside, the man also allegedly damaged items belonging to his roommate.

The man left the scene before officers arrived but he was located a short time later and was arrested with help from police canine Helix.

The accused is now facing additional charges of break and enter and three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
