A standoff with police caused some tense moments for residents in Blenheim.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers with the Critical Incident Response Team, Canine Unit, and Criminal Investigation Branch responded to a “weapons incident” on Hannibal Street shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday. Drones and an armoured rescue vehicle were also deployed as police officials issued a statement on social media asking the public to avoid the area.
Details about the incident that led to the police response and what weapons were in the man’s possession have not been released.
Officers negotiated with a man at a residence for roughly two hours. Authorities announced shortly before 10 a.m. that the situation had been resolved peacefully and the man had been taken into custody.
No further information has been provided but police said an investigation is ongoing.
