With many families heading out for the final long weekend before the start of school, provincial police will be keeping a close eye out.
Authorities say there have already been 239 lives lost on OPP-patrolled roads this year, and it’s critical that drivers recognize the direct link between poor driving decisions and careless actions and the loss of a life.
According to the OPP, almost half of this year’s road fatalities were attributed to drivers who were speeding, not paying attention, impaired by alcohol or drugs, or not wearing their seatbelt properly.
Beyond long weekend travel, motorist are reminded to use the utmost caution when driving near school buses, pedestrian crossings, and school zones as kids head back to class next week.
