Submitted photo.

Tens of thousands of dollars has been raised to support local residents with dementia and their families.

Close to 250 people took part in last month’s Walk for Alzheimer’s at Kingston Park in Chatham, roughly 100 more than the year before.

More than $74,000 was raised, not including sponsorship funding still being collected, surpassing the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent’s goal of $70,000.

Joyce V was named this year’s top individual fundraiser, the top team was Debby Shewburg, and Meadow Park in Chatham was the top retirement or long term care home fundraiser.

All funds raised stay in Chatham-Kent and support more than 1000 clients and care partners with programs and services such as the day programs in Wallaceburg and Chatham, in-home respite care, First Link Care Navigation, and education programs.
